Start with a Fresh Oil Change
If you didn’t change the oil before winter storage, now’s the time. Dirty oil can impact your engine’s performance and reduce its lifespan. While you’re at it, replace the oil filter if your model has one — it’s a small step that makes a big difference.
Check the Blades and Deck
You wouldn’t try to slice a tomato with a dull knife, right? The same principle applies to your mower. Sharp blades make cleaner cuts, which keeps your lawn healthier. Give the blades a quick inspection — if they’re nicked or dull, sharpen or replace them. And don’t forget to clean out under the deck. Built-up grass clippings can affect airflow and lead to uneven cuts.
Battery Check-Up
If your Cub Cadet has been parked all winter, your battery might need some attention. Reconnect it, clean the terminals, and check the charge. If it’s sluggish or struggling to start, it may be time for a replacement.
A Quick Look at Tires and Belts
Before you roll into mowing season, inspect the tires for cracks or low pressure. Uneven tire pressure can throw off your cut height. Belts are also worth a quick once-over — any signs of wear, fraying, or stretching means it’s best to replace them now rather than deal with a breakdown later.
